Was being indecisive on what I wanted to order so I looked at reviews on Yelp and it seemed people enjoyed the taco salad. Couldn't agree any more! Great portion size and refreshing and tasty. We got a margarita tower and that was such a bang for our buck! Went during dinner time and it was a great vibe that set the mood for our night out afterwards!

Why try Barrio? When the server rolls out a cart with what can only be described as a volcanic cauldron for smashing avocados, you know you're in for a treat. With the calm demeanor of a true professional, he smashed the avocados, proficiently mixed in the other ingredients, then left us with a heaping mini-cauldron of fresh guacamole and just-fried chips. We were hooked. I got the Charred Octopus Tacos - soft, pulpy octopus with just a bit of char, mixed with fresh, bright veggies in a warm blue corn tortilla. Delightful. I wish I could say that the other dishes in my party were great - chicken enchiladas, ancho crispy shrimp bowl, chicken al pastor tacos - but nobody let me try their food, that's how good it was. As for the guacamole, it was the hunger games, every man for himself! If it's gone, you'll just have to order more... A great way to spend a mild summer evening in Chicago - give Barrio a try!

First time in Chicago and my friend brought me to barrio for lunch with my daughter. Food, drinks and the service were great. I'd love to thank my waiter (Micheal?) sorry if I'm wrong. I really wanted a Dr Pepper and they don't serve it here so he went out of his way to get me one! I legit almost started crying! Thank you for making my first meal in Chicago very memorable

Celebratory dinner with restaurant picked by the guest of honor. I've seen the place in Chicago for years...finally went in...and glad we did (in truth, sat outside...) Server was predictably River North hip, and great about explaining the menu and its limitations (kind of a bummer that you can't mix/match tacos -- need to order 3 of a kind -- but that's the deal). We opened with the octopus and shrimp ceviche, which was delicious, along with some chips and salsa (get all three salsas...pico, avocado verde, and charred tomato/jalapeno in increasing order of spice). Our three orders of tacos were shrimp, octopus, and quesabirria -- all very good, with the octopus agreed upon as the most interesting/unexpected. Guess we were long on the seafood... Another of us ordered the chicken enchiladas which were good, if not life changing. Side of rice and beans was worth it -- not the usual junky stuff at most lower end Mexican joints. The margarita was good as expected...leading to a long conversation about how it came to be that margaritas are served with salt on the rim (and why they're then also served with a straw...). No resolution. There are zillion "standard" Mexican joints in Chicago, all of which are about the same. Categorize Barrio in the "different, a bit more expensive, and worth the trip for good tacos" department.

What a nice spot! We went for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon and had no issue getting a seat on the patio. Our server was attentive and sweet! He didn't smrush us when we couldn't make up our minds. The drinks, apps, and entrees were all great! I had a lavender hibiscus margarita, which was light and refreshing. We split the salsa trio and queso fundidio with chorizo. I had a steak taco salad- so good! Light and packed with flavor. My steak was medium well instead of the medium rare that I ordered- but the flavor was still good. We finished with Tres Leche cake. Our dog even enjoyed a steak of his own from the dog menu.

What a pleasant surprise. Location is great- right by the river and house of blues. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was friendly. Service was a little slow towards the end but started off strong. Nacho app with chicken was so good- not usually a fan of nachos at restaurants but it was a perfect mix of toppings and chips were crunchy and delicious. Tuesdays you can get $5 taco (except the birria and one other). Al pastor chicken was great, the shrimp was amazing but the truffle mushroom took the cake- it was so unique and had perfect flavor. Strawberry mint margarita was okay- a little watered down for me. The hot mezz on the other hand was the perfect drink . Would def come back

Visited Barrio with my colleagues and it had such a fun vibe! We classically started with mags and tableside guac. Both were so delicious - I even loved the salsas served at the table. As someone who grew in in San Antonio I can attest that was yummy salsa! Here's what I had and how I would rate: - Margarita; classic with tajin rim (8/10) - Tableside guacamole (8/10) - Ancho grilled shrimp tacos (9/10) The shrimp tacos and boy, they were spicy. Overall, I would recommend checking out this spot if you're craving Mexican food!

The service was great. The food came very quickly and surprised our friend for her birthday with free dessert and shots. The atmosphere was cool with dim lights and some greenery. The tuna ceviche taco was very good and refreshing. The peach drink was also very good but very strong

I went to Barrio with my family to celebrate my law school graduation and we had such a fantastic experience! We had reservations since it was a Friday night and were seated quickly. Our server stopped by immediately and gave fantastic recommendations for food and drinks. The food and drinks were phenomenal! Everyone in my party gave 5/5 stars across the board. I got the truffle mushroom tacos and will be dreaming about them forever. We ended our meal with the most delicious tres leches cake which was on the house to celebrate my graduation. I thought that was such a nice gesture and it was greatly appreciated. I'll be back here for sure. The food is amazing, service is great, and the ambiance is so fun.

We were a party of 3 and went pretty late in the afternoon for lunch (after 2 pm), had to wait for 5+ minutes for an outdoor table. Nice vibes with music inside but we want to enjoy the weather. We started with Pinot Grigio for 2, Jalapeno cucumber (spicy..mmm) for me. This is how our order was and No regrets ordering these - Mini Chicken Empanada, Tuna Ceviche Taco, Chicken Al Pastor Tacos, Oaxacan Cheese Quesadilla ( Add Skirt Steak and it is extra $). That was good enough for all of us and we didnt order any entree. The waiter Alex was very friendly and smiling all the time. While tipping, the default is 20% (fyi only). We stayed nearby, so walked to this place. Not sure about the parking/valet parking if they had any.
